To Walk the Earth in Safety (2024)

The Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Political-Military Affairs (PM/WRA) has just unveiled the 2024 annual report, "To Walk the Earth in Safety." This report showcases the impactful efforts of U.S. conventional weapons destruction programs in aiding communities affected by explosive remnants of war to recover and rebuild.

Ukrainian delegation visits Fort Lee for humanitarian demining discussions

FORT LEE, Va. - The Humanitarian Demining Training Center at Fort Lee hosted a small delegation from Ukraine along with participants from the U.S. government and other organizations March 30 to discuss demining aid and support for the Eastern European nation. The event, held at the Michael K. Williams Multi-Purpose Room at the Army Logistics University, functioned essentially as an exchange of ideas between government and military officials, non-governmental organizations and others involved in ongoing demining efforts in the Ukraine. Eight Ukrainians were on hand for the one-day conference.

Training center’s mission impacts post-war regions around world

The Humanitarian Demining Training Center’s (HDTC) impact can be felt across continents, countries and conflicts as a post-war resource supporting the removal of explosive remnants of battle amongst other efforts to make places safe again. That primarily means training select U.S. military personnel in landmine and battle area clearance with the expectation of them sharing those skills and knowledge with partner nations who have common security interests.

DSCA Delegation Visits HDTC

DSCA Director Heidi Grant and a delegation from DSCA recently paid a visit to the Humanitarian Demining Training Center (HDTC). HDTC is one of seven component agencies that fall under DSCA. Located at Ft. Lee in Virginia, HDTC serves as the Department of Defense (DoD) lead for training ally and partner nation personnel to build capacity in explosives remnants of war (ERW) disposal and the physical security and stockpile management (PSSM) of conventional stockpiled munitions.
