On September 25, 2024, the United States proudly completed the signing of a $920 million Foreign Military Financing direct loan with our ally and partner, Romania. Romania is an anchor of stability along NATO’s eastern flank and Black Sea region and steadfast support of equipping and training Ukrainian forces.

We stand with Romania as they commit to ambitious defense modernization goals that serve to enhance NATO’s security. The United States looks forward to continuing our partnership and working together on programs this loan may support.

DoD Sends Aircraft to Support Disaster-Assistance Operations in Nepal

WASHINGTON, April 26, 2015 – The United States has sent an Air Force aircraft to Nepal to deliver personnel and cargo in support of disaster-relief operations, according to Pentagon spokesman Army Col. Steve Warren.

A magnitude-7.8 earthquake hit the country yesterday, reportedly leaving more than 4,200 dead and more than 7,000 injured. Thousands of people are currently reported to be without food, water or shelter.

Hagel: DoD to Begin Safety Testing for Ebola Vaccine Candidate

WASHINGTON, Sept. 26, 2014 — The Defense Department has made critical contributions to the fight against the deadly Ebola outbreak in West Africa, and today Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel described additional ways the Pentagon is helping in the broader battle against infectious disease outbreaks of the future.

He spoke at a gathering of top government and military officials and infectious disease experts from 44 countries here to attend the Global Health Security Agenda, or GHSA, Summit hosted by President Barack Obama.

Top-level DOD Officials Meet With Ukrainian Leadership

WASHINGTON, June 2, 2014 – A team of senior Defense Department leaders recently returned from two days of “productive meetings” with Ukrainian leadership in Kiev, Ukraine, Pentagon spokesman Army Col. Steve Warren told reporters today.

Derek Chollet, assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs, led the team meeting in advance of Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel’s meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart and President Barack Obama’s upcoming visit with president-elect Petro Poroshenko in Warsaw, Poland, Warren said.

DOD Assists Nigerian Kidnapping Search With Fixed-wing Aircraft

WASHINGTON, May 13, 2014 – The Defense Department began fixed-wing intelligence flights late yesterday to assist the Nigerian government in finding more than 200 kidnapped young women, Defense Department spokesman Army Col. Steven Warren said here today.

The extremist group Boko Haram abducted the young women from the Government Secondary Boarding School in Chibok, Nigeria, on the night of April 14.

“As we’ve said previously, we’ll bring all our assets to bear to assist the Nigerian government,” Warren said.

DOD Official Meets With International Partners in Singapore

SINGAPORE , Feb. 19, 2014 – The 2014 Singapore Airshow provided the setting last week for a senior Defense Department official to meet with numerous international partners and defense industry officials.

Frank Kendall, undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics, told reporters at the airshow that the United States was the “feature country” at this year’s event, the first time organizers have made such a designation.

DOD Speeds Delivery of Surveillance Assets to Iraq

WASHINGTON, Jan. 7, 2014 – The United States is speeding delivery of unmanned aerial vehicles Iraq purchased under the foreign military sales program to help in tracking and thwarting al-Qaida-affiliated groups, a Pentagon spokesman said today.

“We’re expediting delivery of 10 operational ScanEagles for part of the original purchase, as well as an additional four nonoperational ScanEagles, which will be sent to help facilitate maintenance of the original 10,” Army Col. Steven Warren told reporters.
