U.S. Humanitarian Assistance to Nepal Totals $12.5 Million

The U.S. Government has committed $12.5 million in humanitarian funding to aid relief efforts in Nepal following the April 25 earthquake.  U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) funds totaling $12.5 million will reach urban and rural communities in the hardest hit districts throughout Nepal.

DoD Sends Aircraft to Support Disaster-Assistance Operations in Nepal

WASHINGTON, April 26, 2015 – The United States has sent an Air Force aircraft to Nepal to deliver personnel and cargo in support of disaster-relief operations, according to Pentagon spokesman Army Col. Steve Warren.

A magnitude-7.8 earthquake hit the country yesterday, reportedly leaving more than 4,200 dead and more than 7,000 injured. Thousands of people are currently reported to be without food, water or shelter.

United States Welcomes Polish Missile Defense Tender

The United States welcomes today's announcement from the Polish Ministry of Defense that Raytheon’s PATRIOT system has been awarded the “Vistula” integrated air and missile defense tender. Poland is a stalwart NATO ally, and its defense modernization program and strong support of Wales NATO Summit commitments, such as the 2 percent GDP defense investment pledge, directly fortifies the military strength of the Alliance. The United States remains committed to Poland's security and NATO's collective defense.

The Commonwealth Government has decided to acquire two additional Boeing C-17A Globemaster III aircraft to bolster the Royal Australian Air Force’s existing fleet of six strategic lift aircraft.

The acquisition of the two additional C-17s – and associated equipment and facilities – represents an investment of $1 billion in Australia’s security and the ability of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) to respond to a range of contingencies.

This project will also provide significant work opportunities for local industry.

Pentagon Expedites $17.9 Million in Equipment to Aid Iraqis

WASHINGTON, Feb. 24, 2015 - The Defense Department has expedited $17.9 million in equipment and supplies - some which have already been delivered - to the Iraqi government, Pentagon spokesman Army Col. Steve Warren told reporters today.

Warren provided a general update on equipment and supplies authorized for delivery to the Iraqis.
